Ipoh/Cameron Highlands Jun 2014 (Day 1)

Back in June last year, our family together with my mum and hubby's mum made a 5D4N trip to Ipoh and Cameron Highlands. Instead of enduring the 8-9hrs long drive all the way from SG and then back, we decided to fly in to Ipoh and rent a car. Hubby managed to get a good airfare deal via Firefly airlines. All of us agreed this was indeed a good arrangement, saving the hassle, time and energy.

We took a late morning flight and by the time we reached Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, cleared customs and checked the car rented, it was past noon already. Decided to proceed directly to Cameron Highlands instead of looking for a place for lunch, thinking that the journey shouldn't take too long and we should be able to reach at least the nearest town (Kampung Raja) in about 1.5hrs for a late lunch.

But we were wrong, the journey took longer than expected, about 2hrs and we were famished. Didn't see any interesting restaurants at Kampung Raja and pushed on towards Tringkap and I spotted this Restoran Old Frenz that sells roast duck!

Quickly parked the car and ordered our food.
The roast duck was succulent and tender. Only remembered to take photos after we started eating. Too hungry already :p

Ordered some chicken as well. Not sure if it was because we were too hungry, everything tasted so yummy!

It's a must to order vegetables in Cameron Highlands! The stir fried water cress was sweet and tender.

Couldn't remember the name of this vegetable already, but it was stir fried with some hae bee and chilli, tasted crunchy. I like!

And this luohan guo with white fungus drink was so delicious too!

After filling our stomach, it was another 30 mins drive to our lodging for 2 nights, the Strawberry Park Resort that's located in between Brinchang and Tanah Rata. We booked the Fresno Family Suite that comes with a living room, balcony, 2 bedrooms and 1 common bathroom.

Here's the living room, very airy and spacious.

This is supposedly the relaxation area, which became the kiddo's play area. He hoarded it with his toys and stuff.

One of the bedroom. Once again, the kiddo claimed it immediately.

 The other bedroom.

 The balcony.

View from our room. Love waking up to this view every day!

The common shared bathroom.

Was quite impressed with the family suite, only inconvenience was the shared bathroom because it was dual-door connected to both bedrooms, must always remember to lock both doors when using. And 4 adults sharing a bathroom weren't convenient nor efficient. Wished the suite came in 2 bathrooms instead of 1.

Anyways, hubby was flat-out from the drive and had to take a nap. The rest of us just entertained ourselves, watching TV and taking turns to shower.

Dinner for the first night at Cameron Highlands got to be steamboat and we usually go to Restoran Titiwangsa located at Brinchang town. Because of the free-flow vegetables!

Look at all the different fresh vegetables available and we could eat all we want.

Bee hoon, cordial drink and different sauces were free-flow too.

The remaining items were one-serving only, based on the number of people at the table.

The vegetables were really fresh and sweet and we had our fill for the night.

After dinner, it started to rain heavily and we waited for a while in the car for it to stop as we wanted to visit the night bazaar at the Brinchang town. In the end, only my mum and I went to the bazaar while the rest waited in the car as it continued drizzling.

Didn't take any photos of the vibrant and colourful bazaar due to the rain :( Only shopped for a while and then headed back to the resort for the night.

Stay tuned for Day 2 of our trip!
